Art House

Soon after our client bought this mid-terraced house in Notting Hill's Westbourne Conservation Area they asked RHA to transform and extend the property to provide them with an informal family home which was also definitively modern.

The house has a long, narrow footprint, orientated North-South and we worked within the limitations of this overall width. Our aim was to breathe new life into a tired and constrained formality. We organised the existing and new elements of the house in such a way that they made a coherent whole and incorporated the client's carefully selected modern art collection into the overall scheme.

A new rear extension with full height glazing opens onto a re-landscaped garden. At first floor level, a tall picture window brings in southerly light to the double height dining area which has been carved out of the original shell.
